Great Escapes with Sarasota Orchestra

On Saturday, October 13th, SYV had the privilege to perform with the Sarasota Orchestra and guest conductor from Brazil, Alexandra Arrieche.  To work with professionals of this caliber was a great honor for our students and a wonderful learning experience.  Our singers were led by our Assistant Director Kari Hamada in a performance of “Goin’ Home”.  The lyrics were written and adapted by William Arms Fisher (pupil of the composer Antonin Dvorak) are based on Antonin Dvorak’s famous “Largo” theme from his Symphony No. 9 (From the New World), Op. 95. This concert took much practice and precision for our young singers in order work with a professional group and conductor and the result was so heartfelt that not a dry eye was left in the room.
